Woy Woy: Baylee Carter pleads guilty to recklessly stabbing a man over threats to his brother

A teenager has pleaded guilty to recklessly stabbing a man following online taunts about the victim’s younger brother, a court has heard.

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

When a 27-year-old man got wind 19-year-old Baylee Carter, who he’d known for about five years, wanted to bash his little brother he sent him a message via Facebook to “come see me about it”.

Two months later Carter did just that, stabbing the older man while he attempted to buy drugs, a court has heard.

Carter, now 20, appeared via video link at Gosford Local Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to reckless stabbing.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing 1.5g of cocaine and a restricted substance in the form of 20 Diazepam tablets he threw onto a roof moments before his arrest.

An agreed set of facts states Carter had known the victim for about five years and received a message from him in July last year via Facebook to stay away from the man’s younger brother.

The pair didn’t hear from each other again until the man, 27, messaged a woman about buying Valium from her on September 15 last year.

She messaged him back on September 19 and arranged to deliver the drugs to a house on Alpha Rd, Woy Woy.

Shortly before 5pm the man approached a car parked in the street, with a blonde woman seated in the driver’s seat, when Carter jumped out of the passenger seat and stood face-to-face with him.

The facts state the pair exchanged words when Carter “pulled an object from the front of his pants” which appeared to be a flick knife.

“The offender reached around with his right hand and stabbed the victim in the lower left flank of his back,” the facts state.

The victim ran off with Carter in pursuit.

“As the victim was running he saw blood leaking down from the side of his body,” the facts state.

The man ran up a driveway and knocked on a door calling for help before turning back to Carter and said “f..k off you bitch”.

“What you’re going to stab me again,” the victim asked Carter.

“I’m f..king pissing out blood.”

Carter walked back to the car he arrived in and left while residents started coming out and helping the man who was covered in blood and calling out “I’ve been stabbed” before collapsing on the ground.

“The victim began vomiting, he was sweating and pale,” the facts state.

When emergency services arrived the man told them he and Carter “had beef previously” but “I don’t know why he stabbed me”.

The victim told them he was meeting a girl he had been messaging before Carter “jumped out and stabbed me”.

The victim was flown to John Hunter Hospital where “the prognosis was felt to be poor” and his lung was partially collapsed.

However he recovered enough to be discharged five days later.

Police tracked Carter down to an address at Umina Beach where he was arrested while trying to flee but not before throwing a bottle of tablets onto a nearby roof.

Carter was found to be in possession of 1.5g of cocaine and admitted the Diazepam tablets were his but declined to be interviewed further.

He was adjourned to face Gosford District Court on July 14 to be arraigned for sentencing.
