A woman remains in hospital after a tree crushed the caravan she was sheltering in during wild storms last night.

The tree has fallen onto the caravan in the backyard of a Wisemans Ferry property around 4.30pm on Monday, trapping the 26-year-old woman.

CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was able to navigate the stormy weather and landed on an oval close to the scene.

NSW Ambulance, the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW safely freed the woman who was assessed by CareFlight’s specialist doctor and a NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic.

She suffered injuries to her neck and lower limbs and was flown to Westmead Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.

Heavy rainfall and damaging winds came on quickly yesterday afternoon moving east to southeast with average wind speeds of 65km/h.

Many homes lost power and there was a widespread blackout for Copacabana, Avoca Beach, Terrigal and Kincumber.
