A West Gosford distillery well known for its coffee cocktails and cold brews is turning its attention to the global pandemic.
Onyx Coffee Spirits has transformed its West Gosford award-winning distillery into a specialist facility to create World Health Organisation (WHO) grade hand sanitiser.
Founders Mitch and Matt Faulkner started the process about two weeks ago in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
“Like a lot of businesses, we’re adapting to the current circumstances,” managing director Matt Faulkner said.
“Having supported local businesses with our coffee and spirits products for years, it was a no-brainer to use our specialist facilities and turn our attention to the current health crisis.
“Everyone is out of this product, suppliers are out. It’s a real conundrum. Hand sanitiser keeps us protected and that’s what we need to concentrate on right now.”
The team will be prioritising essential services for their first run of hand sanitiser, however have an allocation for local residents to pre-order.
“Sydney has their suppliers, so does Newcastle, so this is for the coast,” Mr Faulkner said.
The Onyx team is working around the clock to get the products ready for delivery with 1000 to be made for the initial release.
“We’re working hard to ensure we can secure the ingredients for ongoing production and at a reasonable price,” Mr Faulkner said.
“We’re not trying to profiteer, we are just trying to make it available to people. This is something everyone needs.”
Customers can pre-order online with deliveries expected by mid-April.
