A MAN told paramedics he had been drinking before he clipped a low wooden guard rail on an unregistered trail bike and was flung onto Toukley Beach in a fatal crash last night.
Police said the 49-year-old managed to crawl back to his bike near the intersection of Beach Parade and Crossingham St and call Triple 0.
A police spokeswoman said he was conscious when paramedics arrived but apparently went into cardiac arrest while they were working on him and died.
She said the man called for help at 10.40pm and managed to tell paramedics he was on his way to his uncle’s house at Canton Beach and he “couldn’t breathe”.
She said the man was not licenced to ride a motorcycle and the trail bike was unregistered.
“It appears to have been speed related and alcohol, he told paramedics he had been drinking,” she said.
“There were no other vehicle involved. We are asking for any witnesses to come forward.”
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
