The man who allegedly rammed a petrol bowser causing $50,000 worth of damage in Empire Bay has faced Gosford Local Court.
Ty White, 24, appeared via video link from Parklea Correctional Centre where he applied for bail and was sternly refused.
White, of Woy Woy, didn’t wait for Magistrate Alan Railton to finish his reasons for refusing bail before he stormed from the video link room.
He was arrested on Saturday night and is facing a range of traffic, drugs and weapon related charges.
Police allege just before 9.30pm on Saturday, officers were patrolling Empire Bay Drive when they saw a man allegedly in the driver’s seat of a Ford Focus stopped at a petrol station.
When they approached to speak to the man, the vehicle allegedly reversed and crashed into a petrol bowser which was destroyed.
The vehicle then allegedly drove forward towards officers before it stalled and the man was arrested.
Police searched the vehicle and allegedly seized 4.96 grams of methylamphetamine, $1800 cash, knuckle dusters and a mobile phone.
Police checks revealed White was disqualified from driving until October 2023.
White was charged with 12 offences including drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, not stop vehicle when directed, drive recklessly/furiously or speed, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, possess prohibited drug and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.
His Legal-aid solicitor said White had mental health issues, however had strong community ties and would adhere to strict conditions if granted bail.
Magistrate Alan Railton refused bail, highlighting White’s history of traffic offences including a police pursuit.
He said the danger to other road users during White’s alleged actions on Saturday could have been “catastrophic”.
“The defendant’s efforts to avoid apprehension do not give the court any confidence that he could be in the community,” he said.
Magistrate Railton said the risk to the community was too high to grant White bail.
Once White heard his fate, he stormed from the video link suite muttering under his breath.
He will appear at Gosford Local Court on September 30.
