Police have recovered a stolen car used in an alleged crime spree in which an elderly woman was almost carjacked and two businesses targeted.
Between 3.30am and 7.30am on Friday, February 14, two men broke into a home on Crystal St, at Wyong, and stole car keys while the occupants were asleep.
They escaped in a 2013 model burnt-orange coloured Ford Falcon XR6, which was parked in the driveway of the home.
From there they drove to a shop on Wallarah Rd, at Gorokan, where they tried kicking in the door while staff were inside.
When they were unable to smash their way in they fled in the Ford shortly before 8am.
A short time later a 70-year-old woman left a nearby shop in her BMW.
She was followed to her home at Lake Haven and as she pulled into the driveway, she was approached by a man.
The man allegedly demanded the keys and vehicle before attempting to pull the woman out of the driver’s seat but she was still strapped in.
When he could not get her out the man allegedly stole the woman’s handbag before fleeing in the Ford.
The woman was shaken and distressed by the incident and taken to Wyong Hospital as a precaution.
About 8.10am, the Ford was driven to another shop on the Pacific Highway, at Charmhaven, where a man, armed with a piece of timber, got out and entered the business.
The man allegedly threatened a female staff member, demanding cash.
He allegedly stole a till from the back room and two handbags before fleeing.
Tuggerah Lakes Crime Manager Chief Inspector Glenn Trayhurn said the stolen Ford Falcon was recovered on Moola Rd, at Buff Point, shortly before midday on Saturday.
It has been seized for forensic examination.
As inquiries continue, police have now released CCTV images of two men who may be able to assist with their inquiries, as well as images of the orange Ford Falcon.
Chief Insp Trayhurn has urged anyone who may have information that could assist with the identity of the men, or who may have dashcam footage, to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000.
He described the crime spree as a “disgraceful act” perpetrated on “good people” just going about their daily lives.
“Someone knows who these people are,” he said.
