Two people have died after being pulled unconscious from the water at a notorious Central Coast fishing and swimming spot.

Emergency services were called to Frazer Beach, next to Frazer Park and Snapper Pt in the Munmorah State Conservation Area, about 4.20pm following reports that two people had been taken from the water unresponsive.

Witnesses commenced CPR before paramedics arrived but the pair could not be revived.

Police said in a statement that although they had not yet been formally identified, both are believed to have aged in their 40s.

Tuggerah Lakes police have commenced an investigation and a report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.

The area is part of a notorious three kilometre stretch of coastline south of Catherine Hill Bay which has now claimed at least 20 lives since 2010.

It comes after a horror summer along the NSW coastline since December, with 15 lives now lost.
