A Central Coast family man living a double life as a drug dealer in Sydney’s inner west has had his day of reckoning delayed for the second time, after making a last-ditch play to be represented by one of Australia’s leading criminal silks.

Daleys Point man Tristan Hornsby Ware has pleaded guilty to commercial drug supply after a covert police operation captured unique birds-eye footage of a drug deal being executed from inside his Holden ute at Drummoyne last June.

Ware was caught with a trove of drugs and cash inside a hidden compartment.

The hidden surveillance device captured Ware placing “two crystals” into a resealable bag, reach out to his passenger window and return empty-handed.

Police stopped the ute moments later and found 2.67kg of ice, 209g of cocaine, 37g of MDMA, testosterone, steroids and more than $72,000 cash inside a hidden compartment.

Ware, who is on bail, appeared at Downing Centre District Court on Wednesday where the court heard he wished to be represented by high profile barrister Phillip Boulten SC.

Mr Boulten recently represented former NRL star Jarryd Hayne at his two-week sex assault trial and has also taken on cases for Salim Mehajer, eastern suburbs party boy Matthew Doyle and the daughter of former NSW Premier Neville Wran, Harriet Wran.

Mr Newham said he was first told of Ware’s wishes to be represented by Mr Boulten seven days ago. Mr Boulten hasn’t yet been briefed on the matter or read the agreed fact sheet.

Judge Robson reluctantly granted the adjournment, noting the seriousness of the charges.

Mr Newham previously told The Daily Telegraph the Central Coast father was “extremely sorry” for his actions. “He’s a changed man, it’s as simple as that,” Mr Newham said.

The matter will return to court next year.
