A $7m four storey unit proposal in Terrigal is up for approval, despite exceeding building height limits.
The DA for 13 units and two basement carparking levels at 24-28 Campbell Cres is coming before the Central Coast Local Planning Panel on Thursday.
Central Coast Council staff have recommended the DA be approved, subject to conditions, despite the DA proposing a maximum building height of 10.87m – 12.06m due to the “lift overrun” to allow access to the rooftop terrace. The current height limit for the area is 8.5m.
“The variations are minor in nature, the proposal is well considered in the design to minimise any impact,” the council report states. “These variations are in response to difficult hillside site constraints.”
The development includes demolition of the ageing existing unit block with pool and construction of a 4-storey residential flat building containing 13 apartments and two levels of basement parking with 27 carparks.
There will be two single bedroom units, four two bedroom units and seven three bedroom units. The proposal also includes a rooftop terrace to be accessible to all residents.
Six objections for the DA were received relating to overdevelopment of the site, height limits, overshadowing and being out of character.
The applicant states that the DA will make a positive contribution towards housing options in Terrigal, being close to shops, transport, schools, services and the beach.
“The proposal will not have any adverse affect on the surrounding locality and is consistent with the future character envisioned,” the report states.
