A fire which destroyed a popular Central Coast nightclub is being treated as suspicious, and is the second fire-related incident at the venue within the past two weeks.
The fire broke out at Sirens in the early hours on Thursday morning with emergency services called to the scene, opposite Crowne Plaza Terrigal, on Kurrawyba Ave around 4.30am.
A fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said there was “heavy fire activity” with 40 firefighters and 10 crews managing to contain the blaze in an hour.
The Daily Telegraph spoke to Sirens partner Wesley Bucello, who said he had woken up to the news that his two-storey Terrigal business was on fire.
“I was staying in Sydney overnight when I got a call at about 5.45am telling me the venue was on fire,” he said.
“It looks like the fire began upstairs, but we’re not sure yet whether or not it was arson.”
The FRNSW spokesman said: “No injuries or evacuations were reported and we were able to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.”
“It’s being treated as suspicious,” he said.
“Once the building is cleared of the toxic smoke, we will be looking at how it actually started.”
A NSW Police spokesperson said that officers attached to Brisbane Water Police District had commenced inquiries into the circumstances of the fire, and are treating it as suspicious until proven otherwise.
The latest fire is the second incident in less than two weeks at Sirens.
Around 12:45am on December 6, emergency services were called to the venue following reports of a fire.
“At the scene, police were told that a fire occurred at the front of the building and was extinguished prior to the arrival of emergency services,” police said in a statement.
“Officers attached to Brisbane Water Police District established a crime scene and inquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
