The Central Coast’s infamous carpet layers have pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property on the first day of their hearing in Wyong Local Court.

It comes after more serious charges of robbery armed with an offensive weapon and kidnapping in relation to an alleged home invasion in September 2019 were withdrawn and dismissed.

Hayden Brindle, 31, and Shaylee Cheal, 27, both of Wamberal, faced Wyong Local Court on Tuesday after pleading not guilty to concealing a serious indictable offence and receiving stolen property.

Cheal also pleaded not guilty to attempting to acquire a firearm without a licence.

However their four-hour hearing was vacated after the pair both pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property.

The charges of concealing a serious indictable offence — and Cheal’s additional firearm charge — were withdrawn and dismissed.

Two further charges of robbery armed with an offensive weapon and taking or detaining a person in company to obtain advantage from September 2019 were also formally withdrawn.

The couple, who regularly appear in court dressed in their high visibility carpet laying business workwear, were adjourned to face sentence in Gosford District Court in May.

The court heard the couple were already due to face the higher court on May 6 for sentence after pleading guilty to a raft of drug and steroid offences last year.

Brisbane Water police established Strike Force Oldaker in October 2019 to investigate the importation and supply of steroids on the Central Coast.

As a result of inquiries, several parcels were intercepted by Australian Border Force (ABF) officers at the Sydney Gateway Facility at Clyde.

Cheal later pleaded guilty to importing 50 ampoules of human growth hormone Somatropin, 400 ampoules of the anabolic steroid Drostanolone Propionate and 1900 tablets of the erectile dysfunction drug Tadalafil between October and December 2019, which were intercepted by ABF officers in Sydney.

Brindle pleaded guilty to 26 offences including importing steroids and human growth hormones, supplying MDMA and cocaine and the ongoing supply of prohibited anabolic steroids between October 2018 and August 2019.

He also pleaded guilty to knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime totalling $127,000.
