TWO Central Coast ice hockey stars are preparing to make the most of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete against the world's best juniors in Canada.
Jack Nash and Liam Chalker have been rewarded for their rapid rise through the ranks with selection in the NSW Crocs team set to compete in the 13th international Friendship Games in Aldergrove, British Columbia, from March 11.
The boys, who train several times a week at Erina Ice Arena to fine-tune their skills, were chosen for the team late last year.
Jack, of Copacabana Public School, and Liam, of Point Clare Public School, impressed selectors with their natural talent.
The benefits of such an opportunity are obvious - the Friendship Games is an international tournament for 12 to 13-year-old talented players earmarked for future success in the sport and is held every two years.
Australia is set to host the games in 2015.
As members of the NSW team, Jack and Liam will take on players from countries across the world, including Japan and the US.
"It's brilliant for both of the boys, a one-off chance," Jack's proud mother Cathryn Nash said.
"Ice hockey is the sport to play in Canada."
Getting the boys to the games is a costly process for both families, so they're getting the local community to help out.
A fundraising trivia night has been planned for tomorrow night at Erina Community Hall from 6.30pm.
"We need as much help as we can get," she said.
