TERRIGAL responded to last weekend’s shock semi-final loss in fine fashion yesterday, thrashing Kariong 67-5 to earn their place in the 2017 Central Coast Rugby Union Premier 1 Grand Final.

The Trojans started the preliminary final at Woy Woy Oval strongly, grabbing three tries within the first 15 minutes.

Some individual brilliance from Wanderers winger Brandon Shillingsworth provided Kariong with their sole try of the match, seven minutes later.

The minor premiers weren’t fazed though as they continued to control proceedings and held a 24-5 lead at the break.

Terrigal dominated the second half, adding another 43 points.

Kariong were without some of their players for this do-or-die encounter and were also hit with injuries during the game, but Terrigal showed why they deserve to play in the decider with a great team performance.

Terrigal was well served by wingers Dan Sargeant and Pat Niurua, as well as flanker Sam Kenny who combined for six of the team’s 11 tries.

NETBALL

BERKELEY Vale has claimed this year’s Wyong District Netball Association’s division one premiership after a solid 47-30 win over Bateau Bay in the finale at Baker Park yesterday.

The Dolphins took an early lead, but Some fought their way back into the decider.

A 17-point margin proved enough to hand Some their second title in the club’s third successive grand final appearance.

“The girls really dug deep in the second half and had that hunger to help get the win,” coach Josh Bogers said.

“We worked hard and it came down to consistency, we really focused on that in training and moving into the finals.”

Some’s grand final success was their first win against their opponents this campaign, after a 40-36 semi-final loss to Dolphins 35 two weeks ago, which followed their Round 15 draw.

Bogers praised his side for their efforts, but gave special mention to the defence.
