‘Space Coyote Bar’: Plans lodged for Long Jetty’s first small bar

The ‘black shop’ between the vintage clothing store and the framing business at Long Jetty is about to get a brand new lease on life if plans are approved. Here’s the proposal.

How to make the perfect espresso martini cocktail

First look plans have been lodged for Long Jetty’s first dedicated ‘small bar’ with a quirky name, extended trading hours and a penchant for coffee, craft beers and cocktails.

A development application (DA) has been lodged to change the use of the existing office space into a small bar for up to 49 patrons.

With the exception of signage out the front and some internal fit-out changes, including adding a kitchen, bar and separating toilets into male and female, the building will remain largely the same.

But its function will change dramatically if the $52,000 fit-out and change of use is approved, turning the tired empty office into a funky new late night bar.

Located at 298 The Entrance Rd, between Long Jetty Vintage and Blackbird Framing, the “Space Coyote Bar” fits “well within the aims” of its B2 zoning according DA documents lodged with Central Coast Council.

“The proposed small bar will serve coffee and other non-liquor beverages and light meals

during the day and a range of liquors (together with non-liquor beverages) and light meals

after midday with an emphasis on craft beers,” planning documents state.

If approved it will be the suburb’s third bar/hotel and join The Savoy, located across the road and the Long Jetty Hotel 150m down the road.

“The proposed ‘Space Coyote Bar’ will operate in a different manner to those other premises,

and comprise a small-scale venue focusing on specialty craft beers (as well as cocktails and

boutique wines and other products) in a smaller more intimate setting, with coffee and other

non-liquor products and light meals also available.” the planning document states.

“The small bar business model will be that of a combined coffee shop and bar providing coffee and other non-liquor products together with craft beer, wine, and cocktails, and specifically sets out to create a different atmosphere from that of a traditional hotel or larger scale bar.”

The plans state that reason, the proposed small bar would “fill a different niche, and cater for a different clientele compared to that of existing licensed premises in the area”.

“The proposal is for a unique, small intimate venue that will attract persons seeking a venue providing quality craft and boutique liquors and cocktails,” the DA states.

“The retail centre of Long Jetty has a number of restaurants and cafes. The proposed small

bar will be serving light meals but will complement the existing cafes and restaurants within

walking distance. The venue will comprise a unique bar for the area that patrons of nearby

restaurants/cafe can attend for a drink before or after dining in those other establishments.”

The small bar will be operated by the lessees of the premises, Blixa Buckmaster, Aaron

Tomer and Timothy Gillette, with the small bar licence to be obtained under their names.

The proposed bar will accommodate up to 49 patrons, with 29 seated and 20

standing in the bar area.

A small bar licence is limited to 60 patrons.

It’s proposed opening hours are 6am to midday, seven days, and from midday to 2am the following day from Monday to Saturday.

On Sundays it will close at 10pm.

The bar intends to have six craft beers on tap along with a range of craft beers from under the counter along with liquors, boutique wines, spirits and cocktails.

Free drinking water will be available to all patrons.

A two outlet coffee machine will supply all variations of coffee, tea and hot chocolate while the menu will include light meals such as toasted sandwiches, cheese platters, antipasto platters, pre-made muffins, slices and biscuits.

No deep fried or greasy food will be prepared on site with hot food only requiring toasting or reheating.
