A 19-year-old tradie had an outstanding arrest warrant for alleged domestic violence charges when he allegedly fired a nail gun at two drivers on the M1 motorway, a court has heard.

Reid David Partlett, of Hamlyn Terrace, faced Wyong Local Court on Tuesday where his Legal Aid solicitor Wendy Carpenter did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

The court heard the 19-year-old had a warrant out for his arrest for alleged domestic violence charges from December 22.

Partlett was arrested on January 9 after allegedly firing a nail gun at two motorists on the M1 between Somersby and Ourimbah.

He was charged with two counts of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company, two counts of using an offensive weapon and one count of hindering police.

After his arrest he was subsequently charged with the outstanding domestic violence matters in relation to an incident on December 22 which included one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, destroying property and four counts of intimidation.

The court heard the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had elected to take carriage of the alleged freeway offences involving the nail gun.

The Police Prosecutor told the court the DPP was also considering taking carriage of the alleged domestic violence matters.

Magistrate Robert Munro adjourned the domestic violence charges to February 9 for the DPP to indicate its position and the alleged nail gun charges to March 21.

He also ordered the NSW Police to prepare and serve its brief of evidence in those matters by March 14.

Police will allege in court that emergency services were called shortly after 4pm on Monday, January 9, to reports of a male passenger leaning out of a white Mitsubishi truck and firing a nail gun at other motorists.

One male driver of a sedan, aged 57, was reportedly hit in the arm while a 52-year-old driver of a Toyota Rav 4 told police he felt something impact his head, which caused him to momentarily lose control of his vehicle.

Police caught up to the Mitsubishi truck in the commuter car park off Sparks Rd at Jilliby where Partlett allegedly ran and tried to scale a wire fence before he was arrested with the use of capsicum spray.

He is yet to enter pleas to any of the charges.
