WHEN Terrigal photographer Reed Plummer takes to the sky with his camera drone it’s to pursue a passion that began in childhood.
His strikingly beautiful images reveal nature’s shapes, colours and patterns in an intriguing fusion of art and reality — showing familiar Central Coast locations in a whole new way.
Mr Plummer, 22, of Terrigal, has a growing social media fan base — but has also managed to turn his skill for drone photography into a career through his business, Central Coast Drones.
“We are truly blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the world and I am continually amazed from what I see specially now from a birds eye view,” Mr Plummer said.
“I love finding beauty in the patterns of nature, or in moments when it feels like a David Attenborough’ narration is needed,” he said.
Reed Plummer bought his first DSLR at age ten. He took a year 12 photography class at St Edwards College, East Gosford, which gave him the confidence to chase his photographic dream and he later graduated with a degree in design in photography at University of Technology Sydney.
When drones became more available at the consumer level, he quickly got on board.
“I began shooting and everything I was once so familiar with all of sudden was recreating the way I viewed the world,” he said.
Mr Plummer said the Central Coast was a great place to learn and sharpen your eye for photography.
“Whether it’s the stillness in the morning giving me the conditions to shoot the textures below the water’s surface, or rough seas and wild conditions enabling me to capture the raw power of the ocean, there’s always chances to experiment and create,” he said.
“I’ve got a real passion for the ocean, I am always trying to capture waves in a way that hasn’t been seen.
Mr Plummer said he had grown up taking photos of mates catching the “close-outs” at Terrigal Beach and always found photographic opportunities there.
“Locations like The Entrance or Spoon Bay showcase beautiful patterns in nature, or our idyllic lifestyle,” he said.
“There are plenty of vantage points and lookouts to capture beautiful hidden pockets of the coast.
“People think I must travel the globe to shoot this kind of thing, but I tell them most of my photos are taken 20 minutes from Terrigal.”
Central Coast Drones is based at Terrigal where the business offers a range of services from fine art photography and videography to commercial work including sport and real estate.
“One day I’m shooting a beautiful home on our coastline, next I’m dropping a wedding ring off to someone on a clifftop for a surprise marriage proposal,” he said.
Reed Plummer agreed to share his creativity with the Central Coast Express Advocate ahead of #SnapCoast on November 22 which is a photographic celebration of everything we love about the Central Coast.
