Mark Anthony Reid faced Wyong Local Court today charged with firearm and drug offences following a search of his Bateau Bay home yesterday.

Tuggerah Lakes Drug and Anti-Theft Unit entered the man’s house in Nisic Close, at Bateau Bay, about 2pm to conduct a search warrant.

During the search officers located a shortened .22 rifle with ammunition, more than $3000 in cash, 2kg of cannabis, a taser and steroids.

The man was taken to Wyong Police Station.

A 55-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wyong Police Station where he was charged with possessing a shortened firearm, not keeping it safely, possessing ammunition without a licence, supply and possess 2kg of cannabis, possess a taser and deal with the proceeds of crime after police found $3100 cash at the home.

His Legal Aid solicitor successfully sought for bail, telling the court while Mr Reid had a criminal record “which does not assist him” his most recent matters had been dealt with by way of bonds and fines.

She told the court Mr Reid would agree to live with his elderly parents in Alexandria, Sydney, report to Redfern Police Station daily and surrender $500 in surety.

She said he had faced jail for previous offences and still came to court.

The Police Prosecutor opposed bail because of the seriousness of the charges and concerns Mr Reid would fail to appear.

However the magistrate granted bail despite his “pretty extensive record”.

“I think he’s going to go to jail,” the magistrate said.

The magistrate said he accepted “he’s been dealing” and the firearm was for “protection” because he had been raided in the past.

“That’s correct your Honour,” Mr Reid said from the dock.

He matter was adjourned to October 29.
