A man entangled in a vast drug trafficking operation, has pleaded guilty for his role in a terrifying robbery which saw a defenceless dog shot in the eye and a couple held at gunpoint.
Shay Horn, 34, of The Entrance, pleaded guilty to charges in the Gosford Local Court to robbery with a dangerous weapon and drug supply charges.
According to police facts, Horn and another unknown co-offender, yet to be identified, entered a motorhome at Pelican’s Wharf carpark on Wilfred Barrett Drive on 10 December 2023.
The de facto couple had been staying in the motorhome at The Entrance for about six weeks prior to the incident.
Late at night, Horn and his co-accused entered the motorhome and approached the two victims, who were still in bed. The offender pointed the firearm directly at the man.
A tense exchange then occurred when the male victim asked Horn and the co-accused what they wanted, to which the co-accused replied, “Give us your money.”
The victim replied that he had no money and said: “My front door is open, why would I leave my door open if I had things worth money,” before his partner told the offenders to get out.
Moments later, the unknown co-accused said, “Shoot them, shoot them.”
The unknown male then took a wallet containing $300 in cash and then directed Horn to shoot the couple’s dog.
Horn pointed the firearm at the dog and shot it in the eye, causing a 3mm hole, with the bullet lodged behind her eyeball.
Horn and the co-accused then fled the scene, and the victims called triple-0.
Police later found Horn walking along The Entrance Bridge and found him to be in possession of a number of drugs.
He was arrested and taken to Wyong Police Station where he claimed he did not commit any robbery.
Horn was also arrested by police for his role in the sale of drugs in the Central Coast region after he was caught by an undercover officer.
According to police facts, Horn approached an undercover officer at a car park at Erina Fair on August 25, 2023 and gave him a nappy bag from his jacket, containing a freezer bag with 111 grams of cocaine, in exchange for $29,000.
On August 29, 2023 at about 11.30am, Horn walked to the undercover officer and handed him 997 grams of MDMA in exchange for $48,000.
He was arrested by police on February 28, 2024 at the Newcastle Police Station.
Horn will be sentenced in the District Court on July 3.
