A young man who was charged with alleged drug and weapons offences, and later with allegedly leading police on a pursuit, will remain before the Local Court after the Office of the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) declined to take carriage of his matter.

It comes as a court heard the 23-year-old was charged with allegedly possessing a firearm, which has subsequently been linked to a separate matter before Newcastle Local Court, after police viewed images on his mobile phone.

Lincoln Adams, of San Remo, was not required to appear via video link at Wyong Local Court on Tuesday where the police prosecutor said the DPP had not “elected” to take control of the matter or hear it in a higher court.

It means Mr Adams will remain before the Local Court, which can only impose maximum penalties of two years jail for a single offence, or five years jail for multiple offences, if he is convicted.

Mr Adams was stopped by police about 12.30pm on May 10 on Wallarah Rd, Gorokan, and a search of his vehicle allegedly uncovered 23 MDMA capsules, 18g of cocaine, various steroids, a mobile phone and a round of ammunition.

He was taken to Wyong Police Station where he was charged with three counts of possessing a prohibited drug, two counts of supplying a prohibited drug, and acquiring ammunition without permit.

Following inquiries, officers attached to the elite Raptor Squad conducted a search of a property on Emu Drive, at San Remo, about 6.25pm.

During a search of the property, police located and seized 50g of powder believed to be MDMA, a capsule containing MDMA, two rounds of ammunition, cannabis, 30ml of testosterone and mobile phones.

Mr Adams was charged with a further three offences including possessing firearms and acquiring ammunition without a permit.

He was also charged with failing to stop during police pursuit, disqualified driving and refusing to disclose his identity as a driver over an alleged chase a month earlier on Thursday, April 13 at San Remo.

His solicitor told the court Mr Adams was only charged with possessing firearms when police saw images of him allegedly holding guns on his mobile phone.

Mr Adams solicitor said one of weapons was undergoing forensic testing after it turned up in an unrelated matter that was currently before Newcastle Local Court.

Mr Adams has not entered any pleas and was adjourned to August 21.
