A Central Coast surf club wants to add a bit of sauteing to its more conventional lifesaving operations after lodging plans to open and run its very own restaurant.
Meanwhile the first fast food chain to open at the new Tuggerah bulk retail centre has been revealed after Oporto applied for 24-hour trading rights.
Avoca Beach Surf Life Saving Club has lodged plans with Central Coast Council to turn its upstairs hall into a 300-seat restaurant.
Under the plans the surf club would reconfigure its kitchen and cold storage areas while providing 50 tables throughout its upstairs hall and on the balcony for a permanent restaurant and bar.
The development application (DA) states the club would run the restaurant itself rather than leasing it out to a third party and would continue to host events there as required.
The proposed restaurant and bar would be open Monday to Wednesday from 2pm until 9pm and Thursday to Sunday from 12pm to 9pm.
“The development will generate positive social and economic impacts to the area,” the DA states.
“The club is operating the restaurant to raise funds in support of surf lifesaving, and it will not be leased to external parties.”
Meanwhile Portuguese flame grilled chicken favourite Oporto has been revealed as the first fast food outlet to open when the new Tuggerah bulk retail centre is built opposite Bunnings on Bryant Drive.
Oporto, under the auspices of its parent company Craveable Brands, has lodged an application with council for 24-hour trading approval.
Its plan of management states the fast food restaurant, which is slated for “building D” in the 5.5ha master planned site opposite HomeCo Tuggerah Super Centre and Bunnings, would have between three to eight staff onsite at all times.
The management plan states the restaurant will be will-lit, feature CCTV cameras, other security measures and staff will keep it clean.
“Staff will ensure that the footpath, gutter, building entry and surrounds are kept clean and clear of litter at all times,” the DA states.
Both the Avoca Beach SLSC and Oporto DAs remain with council for determination.
