A woman has pleaded not guilty to stabbing her ex-boyfriend and his new flame after an argument inside a popular club.
Rebecca Elise May Mossman Riley, 31, faced Wyong Local Court on Tuesday where her lawyer formally entered not guilty pleas to two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one count of common assault.
It comes 20 months after Ms Riley allegedly bumped into her ex-boyfriend and his new lover at Wyong Leagues Club on January 7 last year.
Police will allege the trio became involved in a verbal argument before they were all asked to leave about 9.30pm.
However, police will allege in court the fight escalated in the carpark and Ms Riley stabbed her then 29-year-old ex-boyfriend three times in the back, then allegedly stabbed his 31-year-old girlfriend once in the arm.
She then allegedly left the scene.
Horrified onlookers rendered first aid to the injured couple until paramedics arrived.
Paramedics treated the injured man at the scene before he was flown to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle in a stable condition.
His new partner was transported by ambulance to the same hospital for treatment to an arm injury.
Police arrested Ms Riley shortly after midnight the following morning at a unit in Wyong and charged her with two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
She was also later charged with common assault and granted strict conditional bail.
On Tuesday, her Legal Aid solicitor Lucyn Manookian applied to have Ms Riley’s bail varied so she could go to the shops and take her cats to the vet.
Previously, Ms Riley was banned from travelling more than 1km from her Wyong address unless it was for work or medical appointments.
Magistrate John Arms said he was “not concerned about veterinary care” and “last time I looked Woolworths delivers, Coles delivers”.
“You don’t get bail (variations) for cats,” he said.
“Whether I’m a dog man or a cat man, that doesn’t get you bail.”
However he was willing to extend her radius to 3km from her home as long as it was during the day only between 6am and 7pm.
Mr Arms said Ms Riley was on “very serious charges” and did not want her “wandering around” at night.
The matter was adjourned to Gosford District Court on September 5 to fix a trial date, which the court heard was expected to be some time well into next year.
