Police arrest alleged thief submerged in Gosford golf course pond

A 35-year-old Woy Woy fled the scene of an alleged burglary but was located shortly after submerged in a pond within the Gosford golf course.

A man remains under police guard following his bizarre arrest over an alleged robbery at North Gosford today

About 7.45am, a 61-year-old man drove his car to the rear of a business premises in Manns Rd to commence work.

The thief swam across Narara creek after a crash at the corner of Manns Rd and Dell Rd.

As he entered the building he was approached by a man who demanded he open a safe.

It is alleged the man took the money from the safe, along with the other man’s car keys, and drove his car from the business towards Dell Rd.

At the intersection of Manns Rd and Dell Rd he then collided with another car.

The alleged thief ran from the crash site towards Narara Creek, swimming across it towards the golf course.

Police attended and a search of the area with the assistance of Polair and the Dog Unit began.

The man was located and arrested a short time later submerged in a pond within the golf course.

Police searched the pond and located a bag containing cash and other items secreted in the mud.

The 35-year-old man from Woy Woy was arrested and taken to Gosford Hospital for treatment and remains under police guard.

Investigations are continuing, and charges are expected.
