A Central Coast man has been sentenced for importing more than half a kilogram of pure liquid meth through the post from the Netherlands.

Salim Moujalli, of Point Frederick, faced the NSW District Court on Thursday after a jury found the 46-year-old guilty of attempting to possess a marketable quantity of a border controlled drug.

Following the jury’s guilty verdict in April, Moujalli also pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing smaller quantities of another prohibited drug.

Judge Justin Smith said Moujalli, who had served more than two years jail for previous drug supply offences, had shown no insight or remorse about his offending despite “being a victim of drugs himself”.

Judge Smith said Moujalli had a longstanding addiction to opiates and amphetamines.

He sentenced Moujalli to six years and two months jail with a non-parole period of three years and nine months.

With time already served he will be eligible for release on August 16, 2027.

The court heard Moujalli was living in a unit on Albany St, Point Frederick, when he used mobile phones and email addresses registered in false names to purchase more than half a kilogram of pure liquid meth from the Netherlands.

He came under notice when the package, which was disguised as bottles of Garnier SkinActive Micellar water, was intercepted by Australia Border Force officers at the Perth gateway facility in Western Australia on May 20, 2020.

Testing revealed the micellar water was in fact 522g of pure liquid meth.

Officers swapped the drug with plain water and sent the package on its way with an undercover police officer posing as a courier driver to deliver it to Moujalli’s unit block on June 11, 2020.

Judge Smith said the package was addressed to “Sam Moyle” and the undercover officer asked Moujalli if it was him and he replied “yes”.

Moments later police stormed the unit seizing the package along with mobile phones and a notebook.

“I thought that was a package for me but it wasn’t for me so I was going to return it to sender,” Moujalli told police at the time.

“I’m waiting on heaps of stuff on the internet and I’ve got a router coming, a wireless router, and some vapes stuff and I’ve got heaps of s--t coming from the internet.

“It sounded like my name, so I took it and I put it down and said ‘s--t that’s not me’. I was going to return it to sender.”

Judge Smith said despite his lack of remorse, Moujalli had better prospects of rehabilitating after his release from prison this time around because he had emphysema and asbestosis.

He said Moujalli’s shorter life expectancy should motivate him to want to stay out of prison.
