Construction of a $30 million “premium” aged care development in Umina Beach is nearing completion.
The 114-bed facility, to be known as Pozieres House, has been built by Peninsula Villages and is set to open in the coming weeks.
Features of the new facility include specialist aged, palliative and dementia care units all housed within separate households of 12-14 residents.
The residential aged care development is made up of 111 one-bed premium rooms and
three executive suites, all with private ensuites, and the development includes an on-site beauty salon, cafe, theatre lounge room, physio and wellness centre as well as consulting rooms.
“Pozieres House is a premium ageing-in-place development that will offer residential care in a safe, supported and comfortable environment with serene surrounds,” Peninsula Villages chief executive officer Shane Neaves said.
The development is designed as part of a “household model”. Residents live as part of a close-knit household of 12 to 14 residents. Each household has its own alfresco area or balcony, spacious kitchen, dining and living area and separate lounge.
“Each house embraces a person-centred approach and residents create their own daily rhythm filled with opportunities to enhance wellbeing, create connection with others and participate in activities with purpose, which all support individuality and choice,” Mr Neaves said.
“This highly flexible approach honours and respects our resident’s wishes, without compromising on quality of care.”
He said completion of the development would be a historic moment for Peninsula Villages.
“This new building is the product of a fantastic vision from our board of directors, our planners, hard work from our builders, and, very importantly, support from the local community,” he said.
“Not only will this development be a huge boost for our premises, but also for the local economy and labour market, creating more jobs and ensuring we can continue to keep up with the demand of our ageing community.’
“This year has not only proved challenging with the threat of the coronavirus, but the increase of home care packages and people choosing to live at home means providers have to look to develop residential care facilities that will stand the test of time and meet the demands of the community well into the future.”
Pozieres House will be available for residents from mid to late August.
