The Central Coast’s first annual amateur pole dancing competition is celebrating its fifth year running with the theme “A French Affair”.

Sexy’s back and this time it as a distinctly French appeal.

Organiser Daisy Bastick, of The Peach Pole Studio, said while performers could incorporate French elements to their routines it was not compulsory.

This year will see more than 30 women from the Central Coast, Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide descend on Breakers Country Club this Saturday.

“Sexy’s Back! is a fun and relaxed competition where performers are asked to showcase what their interpretation of ‘sexy’ is,” Ms Bastick said.

“All dance styles are welcome.

“This competition has an emphasis on the whole show and judges will not only be looking for fantastic pole skills, tricks and transitions but musicality, x-factor, concept, costume — the whole show.”

The competitors will battle it out in three amateur social categories and one semi-professional category.

Experienced dancer Danni Johnston — who took out the overall event three years ago — is returning to competition after having a baby, while for newcomer Isabella Lam it will be her first attempt.

Studying Psychology at Macquarie University, Ms Lam, of Terrigal, said she took up pole dancing for fitness.

“I just needed a break from uni and I needed something that could keep my interest because gym is boring,” she said.

“I just couldn’t maintain a gym membership.”

Ms Lam said the camaraderie she experienced with the other ladies, plus the fitness she got out of it, kept her coming back.

Tickets are $35 (plus booking fee) and doors open at 6pm.
