It took more than 20 semi trailers just to transport the 600-tonne crane to Lisarow for the incredible work done on the Pacific Highway upgrade over the weekend.
The crane has lifted 27 concrete girders into place for a new rail bridge, as part of the $178m Pacific Highway duplication project to help improve traffic flow.
Transport for NSW project manager Pala Balendran said it had been a challenging weekend, with storms shutting down work for a period on Sunday.
However the required work to lay the 27 girders will be completed today.
“It has been a challenge,” Mr Balendran said as he explained that this part of the upgrade was all about timing around the rail maintenance shutdown.
“It took a week to assemble the crane, which was brought here on more than 20 semi-trailers, and we will soon dismantle it.”
He said the work attracted plenty of attention over the weekend, with people marvelling at the sheer enormity of the works.
Central Coast Parliamentary Secretary Adam Crouch said it took 70 people working around the clock to complete the work over the weekend.
Mr Crouch said the project had already generated more than 1000 jobs and benefited 150 businesses.
“Work is also underway to install traffic lights at the Railway Cres and Macdonalds Rd intersections, as well as better parking access at Lisarow Station,” he said.
“In mid-2021 traffic will be shifted onto a new section of The Ridgeway so that work to widen the intersection can occur.”
The upgrade will provide two lanes in each direction on the Pacific Highway between Ourimbah St and Parsons Rd for its 30,000 daily users.
