A civilian police employee will be catching the bus to work after losing his licence for drink-driving.
Colin James Burrows, of Tuggerawong, faced Gosford Local Court on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to mid-range drink-driving.
An agreed set of facts states the 41-year-old, who is attached to a specialist police command, was detected travelling 90km/h in a 60km/h zone on the Pacific Highway at Ourimbah about 12.30pm on February 10.
Traffic and Highway Patrol officers were conducting speed checks when they clocked Burrows in a Kia sedan near the intersection of King St and pulled him over.
“While speaking to the accused it was noticed that his breath smelt of intoxicating liquor,” the facts state.
“The accused underwent a roadside breath test which proved positive. The accused was arrested and conveyed to Gosford Police Station for the purpose of a breath analysis.”
Back at the police station Burrows told police he had consumed six 480ml pints of Balter beer at the Sydney Opera House.
He told them his first drink was about 5pm earlier in the evening on February 9 with his last drink about 9pm.
Burrows returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.102 — more than double the legal limit.
The facts state traffic was light at the time he was detected and the road was dry.
The court heard after his guilty plea police requested an order for Burrows to attend a police station to provide his fingerprints.
Burrows was convicted of mid-range drink-driving, slapped with a $750 fine and disqualified from driving for a minimum of three months.
He was also put on an interlock order for a further 12 months after he gets his licence back.
The court heard Burrows also received a speeding ticket for travelling 90km/h in the 60km/h zone.
