The son of a former Central Coast councillor has pleaded guilty to dealing with the proceeds of crime but denies having anything to do with a kilo of cocaine found at a clandestine drug lab six months earlier.
Cameron Craig Sundstrom, 26, of Erina, faced Gosford Local Court on Friday where his solicitor formally entered guilty pleas on his behalf to dealing with proceeds of crime, possessing a bullet and a small amount of cannabis.
However he pleaded not guilty to supplying a commercial quantity of cocaine.
Sundstrom, the son of former Central Coast councillor and NSW Labor election candidate Jeff Sundstrom, was charged after sheriffs officers were conducting an eviction at an apartment on Terry Rd, at Rouse Hill, in February last year when they stumbled onto an alleged clandestine laboratory.
Police were called and seized 1.047kg of cocaine, which they allege was in Sundstrom’s possession.
Jeff Sundstrom is not charged with any offences and there is no suggestion he has done anything wrong.
Six months later police had bugged Cameron Sundstrom’s 2017 Toyota Corolla, which they were also conducting physical surveillance on, when they observed him drive from his Erina address all the way to Queensland on August 23 last year.
The following day Sundstrom drove all the way back and was pulled over about 7pm on the Pacific Highway, near Burns Rd, at Ourimbah.
A detective introduced himself and said “mate, we are going to search your vehicle so tell me where the stuff is now” to which Sundstrom replied “back seat”.
On the back seat police found $270,0050 in cash.
Police further searched the car and found a single 9mm round of ammunition for a Luger firearm, 5.7g of cannabis and several mobile phones.
Sundstrom’s bail was continued and he was adjourned to January 23 to fix a trial date.
