Move over Swiss Supercar driver Simona de Silvestro, there’s another European beauty who’s making a name for herself behind the wheel.

Alexandra Luver is quite possibly the first German monster truck driver in Australia and she will be out to impress on Saturday when the Festival of Fun kicks off at Gosford Showgrounds.

“I’ve crushed some cars but I prefer to drive the kids around,” she said.

Luver drives “Captain Koala”, a 4.5 tonne, methanol-injected V8 beast of a monster truck capable of generating 1200 horsepower — almost double the 650 horsepower of a typical Supercar.

But Captain Koala is not just any monster truck, it has been specially modified to take up to 10 passengers in the back.

“It’s really good fun,” she said.

“It’s good to see the kids, they wave at you, they smile at you.”

Captain Koala will be joined by four other monster trucks on Saturday night, which promises to be part smash-up derby, part fireworks and laser spectacular and full-on entertainment.

Promoter Troy Garcia said the show includes jet cars, rollover cars and fire trucks.

“There’s a bit in the show for everyone,” he said. “It really is a family show.”

Garcia said the event would still go on in the event of a total fire ban but it would be modified to feature more lasers than fireworks.

He urged people to bring a folding chair or a picnic blanket.

He said tickets were still available from Repco at West Gosford and Tuggerah, online at monstertruckpromotionsaustralia.com or at the gate.
