Mark Elwell faces Wyong Local Court over alleged sexual touching on train

A 46-year-old Central Coast man who allegedly sat on the lap of a 20-year-old man on a train at Strathfield, before allegedly sexually touching him twice, has faced court.

A man has faced Wyong Local Court charged with two counts of sexually touching another man on a train at Strathfield.

Mark Stephen Elwell, of Canton Beach, represented himself when his matter was mentioned briefly before a Registrar and asked for an adjournment so he could seek legal representation.

Charge sheets tendered in court allege about 12.40pm on Saturday, June 21, a 20-year-old man boarded a city-bound train at Strathfield when Mr Elwell, who was unknown to the younger man, entered the carriage and spoke to him.

Police further allege Mr Elwell left the carriage before returning a short time later and allegedly sitting on the man’s lap and sexually touching him twice.

The victim boarded the train at Strathfield Station, shown here in this file photograph.

Police were notified later the same day and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, officers from Police Transport Command arrested Mr Elwell about 7.15am on Wednesday, July 8.

He was taken to Wyong Police Station and charged with two counts of sexually touch another person without consent.

Mr Elwell was granted bail, which was continued when he faced court and his matter was adjourned to August 12.
