WHEN Malcolm Jenkins left work on Friday he told his boss he had “found peace” and was going to “enjoy life”.
The 45-year-old spray painter told colleagues at Simply Smashing Auto Repairs he was going for a ride the following morning before coming into work later Saturday afternoon.
The father-of-five never made it.
It is believed Mr Jenkins was attempting to pass another motorcycle on the Old Pacific Highway at Cowan when he struck an armco railing and was thrown from his motorbike shortly after 11.30am.
Mr Jenkins was treated at the scene by paramedics but could not be revived.
“He loved motorbikes, he loved his kids and he was very motivated,” Simply Smashing owner Raffi Nercessian said.
“He told me on Friday he had finally found `peace in my life’. He said `I’m all clear, I’m going to enjoy life’.”
Mr Nercessian described Mr Jenkins as a “model employee” who was admired and respected by his colleagues who held a minute’s silence for him before work on Monday.
Mr Nercessian said after “venturing into a lot of things” in his youth Mr Jenkins had found religion and got his life on track with a new partner.
Traffic & Highway Patrol police and Ku-ring-gai Local Area Command officers attended the accident site and established a crime scene.
The Old Pacific Highway was closed in both directions for some time as police began the painstaking task of trying to piece together exactly how the experienced rider came to grief.
Friends and members of the close-knit motorcycling community erected a small memorial at the site but have urged those wishing to pay their respects to park 100m up the hill at a safer spot and walk down.
Tributes meanwhile have flooded social media sites where Mr Jenkins was described as an inspiration who “showed everyone what true strength really is”.
“RIP mate. You were an inspiration and showed everyone what true strength was. You will be missed by so many, sending love to your family,” Rebecca Whitelam posted on Facebook.
