A MAN is clinging to life in hospital after he was set upon by a group of men in a “targeted” attack outside a shopping centre on the Central Coast last night.
Brisbane Water police were called to the Pacific Highway adjacent to the Wyoming Shopping Centre at 10.50pm where they found a 39-year-old man unconscious near the footpath.
He was taken to Gosford Hospital for serious head injuries, before being flown to Royal North Shore Hospital.
Brisbane Water crime manager Chief Inspector Glenn Trayhurn said police were working on a possible motive for the attack but believe it was “targeted”.
“We believe it might be a targeted assault but we are exploring all avenues of the investigation,” he said.
“[The victim] was set upon by a number of males which resulted in some serious injuries and he’s been conveyed to hospital.”
Chief Insp Trayhurn said the victim was a local man from Wyoming.
A crime scene has been established and Brisbane Water detectives will continue their inquiries.
Anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or who may have information that could assist the investigation should contact police.
