Police have confirmed the death of a man in hospital after being seriously assaulted outside a shopping centre at Gosford last week.
About 8pm on Tuesday November 6, two men – aged 20 and 57 – had a verbal argument inside a shopping centre on Erina Street.
Police allege the younger man left the centre and waited outside.
As the older man left, it is alleged he was involved in a fight with the same man.
The younger man is alleged to have assaulted the older man causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head on the footpath, knocking him unconscious.
Witnesses detained the younger man until the arrival of nearby officers from Brisbane Water Police District.
The injured man was treated by paramedics and taken to Gosford Hospital before being transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
Two days later the older man died in hospital.
At the time, the 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and recklessly cause grievous bodily harm.
He remains before the court and investigations are continuing.
