An argument between two housemates has allegedly led to the fatal stabbing of a 43-year-old man at Narara.

Daniel Paul Wheelahan appeared via video link at Gosford Local Court on Monday where his Legal Aid solicitor did not make an application for bail.

Charge sheets tendered in court allege Mr Wheelahan murdered Darren Ashley Quick some time between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Sunday.

Dressed in police forensic overalls, Mr Wheelahan did not say much when his matter was mentioned briefly with the Magistrate ordering a brief of evidence to be served by October 4 with the matter to return to court on October 15.

Bail was not applied for and formally refused.

Neighbours said the men were lodgers at the house on Holcombe Ave.

Emergency services rushed to the home just after 6pm on Sunday after neighbours reported a disturbance.

Brisbane Water Police detective chief inspector Glenn Trayhurn said officers found a 43-year-old man who was unresponsive with a single stab wound to the chest.

“Emergency services were unable to revive the male,” he said.

“Police attended and established a crime scene. Police arrested a 42-year-old male at the scene and he’s been charged with murder.”

Chief Inspector Trayhurn confirmed the two men were housemates.

“There was some sort of disturbance and police will allege that the male died due to a wound to the chest,” he said.

He said while there was an initial disturbance in the street, the incident happened inside the house and a knife was confiscated at the scene.

He said an investigation would determine whether the men were drinking or under the influence of drugs.

“From what I understand it is isolated to the household where the incident shouldn’t cause the general public any concern,” he said.
