AN ELDERLY man died after suffering an apparent cardiac arrest before crashing on the Motorway Link Rd last night, despite fellow motorists trying to help him.

AN ELDERLY man died after suffering an apparent cardiac arrest before crashing on the Motorway Link Rd last night.
The 74-year-old from Mannering Park was travelling north about 7.30pm when his Holden Commodore was seen to veer off the road and collide with a guardrail.
The car slid along the guardrail for a distance until it collided with a tree.
Passing motorists stopped and tried to help the man until paramedics arrived but he was unable to be revived.
Tuggerah Lakes duty officer Inspector Jennifer Lawton said there were no skid marks or signs of braking and there was minimal damage to the vehicle.
“There appeared to be little trauma to the deceased,” she said.
“Initial investigations suggest he may have suffered a medical episode.”
Police established a crime scene and the north lane of the link road was closed unto about 11pm.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
It comes after two other fatal crashes along the same stretch of road including a 20-year-old woman who was killed in January when a 78-year-old turned out of Blue Haven Way in front of her.
The impact pushed the woman’s car into the path of an oncoming Audi A4 and a Holden Commodore.
The elderly man was later charged with dangerous driving occasioning death.
A month earlier in December, a 75-year-old man was killed when his Toyota Rav 4 collided with a Lexus station wagon towing a boat.
The elderly man died at the scene while the Lexus driver, 56, and his female passenger, 31,
were taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
