A civilian employee of the NSW Police Communications & Security Command has faced court for the first time charged with two counts of impersonating a police officer.

Luke John Deger, 34, of Berkeley Vale appeared in person at Wyong Local Court on Wednesday.

His solicitor, leading criminal lawyer Ryan Finch, told the court there was an “indication of pleas of guilty” to the offences but no pleas were formally entered.

Mr Finch sought an adjournment to December 17 when the matter would “proceed to sentence” or Mr Deger would make an application to have the charges dealt with under mental health provisions.

Charge sheets allege Mr Deger impersonated a police officer between September 9 and 11 at Berkeley Vale by “misleading” a woman that he was an officer “when in fact he was not”.

The charge sheets further allege he also told another woman he was a police officer between September 11 and 14 at Berkeley Vale.

Police allege Mr Deger impersonated a police officer and provided inaccurate information online.

Following inquiries, Mr Deger — who is attached to the Communications & Security Command — was arrested and taken to Wyong Police Station where he was charged.

His conditional bail was continued and he will reappear at Wyong Local Court on December 17.

In a statement released after Mr Deger’s arrest, police said “his employment status is under review”.
