Krystal Lee Begg charged with attempted murder of correctional officer
An inmate has been charged with attempting to murder a Corrective Services officer at a western Sydney jail while she was being moved between cells.
A female prisoner has been charged with attempted murder after she allegedly slashed a senior correctional officer’s neck with a razor blade as she was moved between cells at a western Sydney jail.
Krystal Lee Begg, 32, allegedly attacked the 30-year-old male guard at Dillwynia Correctional Centre in Berkshire Park in Sydney’s west shortly after 11.10am on Sunday, leaving him with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
“On Sunday, officers attached to Hawkesbury Police Area Command attended a correctional facility in Berkshire Park following reports of an assault,” a NSW Police spokeswoman said in a statement.
“Police were told a 30-year-old man allegedly sustained a cut to his neck after an altercation with a 32-year-old woman.”
Following inquiries, Begg was taken to Windsor Police Station and charged with attempting to murder by means other than in ss27-29.
The former Ourimbah woman did not apply for bail at Penrith Local Court on Monday and the case was adjourned to February 20.
A Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman said staff affected by the incident as officers were moving Begg between cells were being provided with support.
“Correctional officers deserve our gratitude and they deserve to be safe on the job,” the spokeswoman said.
“Working in a prison is a tough job at the best of times and correctional officers put themselves at risk to keep us all safe.”
NSW Ambulance attended the prison, and the officer was taken to hospital for treatment for serious but not life-threatening injuries.
