A man has been jailed after knocking off a cigarette machine from a pub, ransacking cars at a popular beachside campsite and pinching tools from a nursery.
Jack Darren Warne-Liddle, of Kincumber, faced Gosford Local Court on Friday, when he was sentenced to two years and four months in jail after pleading guilty to more than a dozen counts of stealing, damaging property, driving a stolen tipper truck, and possessing a replica firearm and two air guns.
He was given a non-parole period of 18 months.
Three separate sets of agreed facts state the 29-year-old was captured on CCTV breaking into the Kincumber Hotel overnight on December 12, 2022, with an unknown accomplice.
The facts state Warne-Liddle and another man, who was wearing a camouflage hat and dark hoodie, were seen using a broom and a shovel to change the angle of external lights before forcing their way into the premises.
Once inside, the facts state, Warne-Liddle “ultimately disabled” two CCTV cameras including using a caulking gun and a black glove to smear sealant over the lenses.
The pair then used a lever to prise a cigarette machine off the floor before carrying it outside in a wheelbarrow.
The facts state the hotel’s licensee was notified of an alarm going off but thought it was the “cellarman arriving early”.
The licensee arrived at 5.30am to find the cigarette machine gone and the main doors ajar before calling police.
Officers located the wheelbarrow, a black glove with white sealant on one finger, and the caulking gun nearby.
“The vending machine was recovered and could not be repaired,” the facts state.
“The total value of the machine was about $5000 and an estimated $1000 worth of cash and cigarettes was taken.”
Just over a month later at 4.18am on January 21, 2023, Warne-Liddle was captured on CCTV breaking into a shipping container at the corner of Empire Bay Drive and Cochrone St.
The premises is home to a plant nursery and power tool shop.
The facts state Warne-Liddle moved about $500 worth of tools to the outer fence line of the property with the intention of stealing them before he fled the scene.
Ten days later, a tipper truck was stolen from a landscaping business at Kerta Rd, Kincumber, before three cars were broken into at the Little Beach camp ground car park overnight on January 31.
Two of the cars had their driver’s side windows smashed and their car battery disconnected before various items were stolen, including a wallet, skateboard, GPS, breathalyser, windscreen shade, tent and $250 cash.
On February 1, a staff member was alerted to someone dumping rubbish from a tipper truck opposite Kincumber Quarry and went outside and took a photo of Warne-Liddle, who left a short time later.
The following day, police obtained a search warrant for his address on Gladys Manley Ave, Kincumber, where they seized a replica 12-guage shotgun, two air pistols and a shirt identical to one Warne-Liddle was wearing when he broke into the shipping container.
He was arrested a few days later but declined to be interviewed.
With time served since his arrest, Warne-Liddle will be eligible for release on September 25.
