Ken’s Humble Pie at The Entrance crowned best bakery on the Central Coast

Matt Preston put out the call to find the Central Coast’s best bakery and now the votes are in — find out who won.

Matt Preston’s search for the best bakery in the Central Coast had us drooling and now we can finally reveal who took out the region’s top gong.

Ken’s Humble Pie Shop at The Entrance was voted by our readers as the best on the coast.

The man himself Ken Shearim brings a wealth of experience having first come to the Central Coast in 1977 when he opened Ken’s Pies at Toukley and then at Wyong, which he owned for about nine years.

He then opened Legends Bakery at Wyong before opening Pie in the Sky at Erina, where he stayed for about six years until he opened the restaurant Time After Time.

The pastry chef has been at Ken’s Humble Pie Shop now at The Entrance for about 10 years.

Mr Shearim said he also picked up a few tips when he worked at the then Dooralong Lodge for a couple of years.

“What makes our pies better is we make our own beef and lamb stock,” he said.

Mr Shearim said they slow cook a lot of the meat fillings and only use the freshest of vegetables.

With two grandsons helping him out the back in the kitchen and two granddaughters helping out the front, the pie shop and bakery is very much a family affair.

“They all do a wonderful job along with all the other staff, I’ve been blessed to have really good staff,” Mr Shearim said.

Located in Coral St, Mr Shearim said he has no plans to sell this business and move on just yet.

“I have always liked The Entrance because it’s a family place, it’s multicultural, it’s just a good place to be,” he said.

He also does a range of sausage rolls, quiches, profiteroles and sweets.

Mr Shearim said “it’s an honour” to be named the coast’s best bakery.
