Keith Anderson: Ourimbah crash driver’s incredible excuse for why he had cannabis, cocaine and cash

Wildest Aussie dashcam accidents

Keith Anderson was barefoot, dishevelled and looked like he was under the influence of drugs after he crashed his Toyota Landcruiser into the back of another car on the M1 sending 42kg of cannabis, more than 100g of cocaine and $39,000 in cash strewn across the motorway.

Forensic results of mandatory blood tests would later find the 38-year-old from the Rockhampton suburb of Frenchville, had a cocktail of amphetamine, methylamphetamine, cocaine and Benzoylecgonine in his system to the point an expert stated it would have impaired his driving ability.

But no one was more surprised to discover the contents of his ute than Anderson himself, according to a set of agreed facts tendered to Wyong Local Court on Tuesday.

The facts state he told police in a recorded interview he had driven from Queensland to see his daughter near Liverpool the day before but couldn’t find her.

He said he camped the night at an unknown location where he found three boxes and a black bag before heading back to Queensland.

“Without checking the contents he put them in his vehicle,” the facts state.

Police found three mobile phones, a vacuum sealer and vacuum sealer bags, many resealable bags, cash bundled in elastic bands, a 45cm machete and Winchester hunting knife in his ute.

They also recovered 42.3kg of cannabis, 106.53g of cocaine, 139.41g of methylamphetamine and 309.6g of 3,4-Methylenedioxyamphetamine, also known as MDA from the crash scene.

Police located seven firearms registered to Anderson in a grey box on the back of the ute along with ammunition.

“The offender denied any knowledge of the cash, cannabis or other drugs,” the facts state.

“The offender accepted that his firearms were not stored safely.”

Anderson has previously pleaded guilty to driving recklessly, furiously and in a manner dangerous; speeding more than 45km/h over the limit; and driving under the influence of drugs.

On Tuesday Anderson pleaded guilty to two counts of supplying a commercial quantity of drugs, three counts of supplying an indictable quantity of drugs, knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime and not keeping a firearm safely.

A further six charges of possessing an unauthorised firearm were withdrawn and dismissed.

The facts state police received several Triple-0 calls from the public about 11.30am on Sunday, December 5, last year concerned about the speed and manner of driving of a white Landcruiser with Queensland plates on the freeway.

About 11.45am police were on the M1 at Ourimbah, north of Dog Trap Rd, when they saw the vehicle travelling north at no less than 130km/h. Police initiated a pursuit with lights and sirens.

At one point Anderson is captured on dashcam footage overtaking a car using the median strip before colliding with the rear of a Chevrolet Camaro, which ricocheted into a B-double in the next lane.

Police estimate Anderson was travelling an average speed of no less than 160km/h in the 110kmh zone.

His ute came to rest with no front wheels about 330m north of the initial impact with debris strewn across all three lanes.

Anderson will face Gosford District Court on October 28 to set a date for his sentencing.
