A CENTRAL Coast man who fled to the Top End after allegedly biting off part of a man’s ear in a pub fight has been extradited.
Kane O’Meley was led through Darwin Airport by detectives before boarding a flight to Sydney.
O’Meley was arrested at a Virginia property after NT Police received a tip-off he was in hiding in Darwin.
Constable first-class Joanna Kolodziej said O’Meley was arrested by members of the Territory Response Group on Tuesday morning.
He appeared in Darwin Local Court briefly on Tuesday.
“The offence for which the warrant was sort was a melee which occurred at a pub in northern NSW,” she said.
“The charge is a serious harm charge and the injuries to the victim include a bite to an ear of a male and a broken jaw to another male.”
Mr O’Meley was charged at Mascot police station with assault related offences overnight and is expected to appear at Waverly Local Court in Sydney today.
Police were called to Northlakes Tavern about 10pm on November 19 after reports of a wild brawl.
When they arrived police found a group of men were clashing with another group in what police allege was a “prolonged and sustained” attack.
Officers were forced to use capsicum spray after some of the men became aggressive to police.
A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene and another man, 25, was taken into custody at a service station a short distance away.
Both men were taken to Wyong police station where they were assisting police with their inquiries.
Paramedics treated five people at the scene including a 28-year-old man who had the upper part of his ear bitten off. He was taken to Wyong Hospital for further treatment.
A female security guard, 44, who tried to break up the brawl was also taken to hospital with
injuries to her ribs and ankle.
