A young army veteran who served in Afghanistan will be sentenced next month for allegedly supplying around $9 million worth of drugs found in the back seat of his car in Sydney.

Jesse Robson, 24, was arrested on the side of the road in Milperra back in July 2021 before police allegedly found 17kg of cocaine and 8kg of methamphetamine in the back seat of his vehicle, court documents showed.

Robson, from Springfield on the Central Coast, was medically discharged from the army in April 2021, the Supreme Court previously heard, when the matter went before court last year.

He had joined the Army in 2016 and served seven months overseas in 2019, including in Afghanistan.

Robson’s lawyer told the Supreme Court in September 2021 that his client suffered medical and psychological debilitations, which “progressively compromised his capacity to continue service both in Afghanistan and more generally”.

On returning home Robson was diagnosed with adjustment disorder and musculoskeletal issues in shoulder, spine, hips and legs.

Robson fronted Burwood Local Court on Wednesday, where Magistrate Richard Funston committed for sentence two charges of supplying a prohibited drug equal or more than a commercial quantity. Two other charges have been withdrawn and there is not yet an agreed statement of facts.

The co-accused in the case is Adam Sakr, who has yet to enter a plea and will return to court on July 13.

Sakr is charged with two counts of supplying drugs of or more than a large commercial quantity, and two of supply of or more than a commercial quantity. He is also charged with three counts of dealing with the proceeds of crime, and one count of escaping police custody.

NewsLocal previously reported that Sakr was allegedly in the passenger seat at the time of the arrest and sprinted across six lanes of the M5 during the arrest to avoid police.

Robson remains on bail and will next appear at the Downing Centre District Court for sentencing.
