A high-profile dentist with a nearly 80,000-strong Facebook following is facing further charges a week after allegations emerged he had threatened to kill two of his former lovers.
Doctor Steven Morgan Lin, the principal at Helix Dentistry based in the Central Coast, was arrested in the Illawarra last week and charged with two counts of using a phone to menace and contravening an apprehended domestic violence order.
Documents tendered during a successful bail application at Wollongong Local Court state Lin, on September 14, allegedly called his former girlfriend of 15 months who he recently split from and said: “I will kill you. I will hang you and kill you.”
About 20 minutes later Lin called his ex wife, who is also a principal at the dentistry in Erina and Long Jetty, and allegedly threatened to kill her.
“I will slit your throat and rip your head off and hang your body in the garage,” he allegedly said.
The documents state Lin was reported to police who arrested him in the Illawarra with his former girlfriend telling them he was in the midst of an ice bender.
This publication can reveal the 40-year-old author of The Dental Diet, who also featured in a 2014 TED Talk, had been charged with two others offences prior to the two alleged calls.
Lin did not appear in Wyong Local Court on Friday where he was represented by lawyer Natasha Konic for the first mention of other allegations stemming back to September 7.
The Terrigal man is charged with contravening an apprehended domestic violence order in place to protect his former girlfriend as well as destroying or damaging her window.
During his bail application, Magistrate Clare Girotto said: “The past few months he has been spiralling and it appears to be [because of] drugs.”
“He was self medicating because he is so smart by taking meth. He must know as a medical practitioner there’s other treatments.”
Lin was bailed to live with his parents at Figtree with Ms Girotto ordering he report to police three times a week and allow them to inspect his phone when requested.
He was also ordered to undertake the magistrates early referral into [drug and alcohol] treatment program.
Lin, who is yet to plead to any charge, will appear in Wollongong Local Court on October 10 with the matter at Wyong listed the following week.
