It was close to 7pm on Monday night when John and Cory Clarke, of Wisemans Ferry, received a call about an out-of-control shipping container heading downstream in the Hawkesbury River.

Within minutes, the couple had alerted a staff member at Hawkesbury Houseboats that the container was headed for their luxury fleet while Mr Clarke put his drone up to monitor the location of the container.

The footage captures the container heading towards the jetty.

Footage has captured what unfolded as the shopping container hurtled downstream during the wild weather and flooding.

The video shows the container crash into the jetty at Wisemans Ferry, however it’s what happens after that has amazed everyone.

Simon, a staff member from Hawkesbury Houseboats, jumped into a tinnie and headed straight towards the container. The footage shows him barge into the container and push it away from the line of houseboats.

He stays glued to the container while it passes the fleet, then pushes it further downstream to avoid any danger to the surrounding community.

“I was in awe taking the footage,” Mr Clarke told the Express Advocate.

“It was like watching a movie and the noise was just insane from when the container hit the ferry.”

Mr Clarke said it was his parents in-law, who live about 500m upstream, who alerted them to the container which had washed into the river from Ebenezer.

“From the moment my wife called Simon, he literally had about three minutes,” he said.

“It was pretty lucky to have even made it in time. It looked like it was heading towards the corner of the houseboats. The damage would have been huge.

“It was something different, a bit of excitement and thankfully nothing was damaged.”

Mr Clarke, who owns the cafe above the Wisemans Ferry Bowling Club, said flood levels were continuing to rise at Wisemans Ferry with Spencer still isolated.

Attempts were made to contact Simon the hero boatie and Hawkesbury Houseboats.
