A man charged with bludgeoning an elderly neighbour with a sledgehammer has pleaded guilty to smashing another neighbour’s car and bedroom windows a fortnight earlier.

David Michael Guest, of Halekulani, was not required to appear via video link at Wyong Local Court on Tuesday where he is facing three charges.

The 46-year-old was arrested and refused bail on February 10 after police allege the former paramedic approached a 62-year-old neighbour in Huene Ave, Halekulani, about 6.20pm and hit him multiple times in the head with a sledgehammer.

The neighbour sustained serious injuries and was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

Guest was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and contravening an apprehended violence order and was refused bail.

On Tuesday the court heard Guest’s solicitor had been awaiting the results of a psychologist’s report before seeking further discussions with the Crown prosecutor.

Guest has not entered any plea in relation to the causing grievous bodily harm charge or contravening an AVO charge and the matters were adjourned to December 6.

He did not apply for bail.

However the court heard Guest has pleaded guilty to destroying or damaging the property of another neighbour just weeks earlier on January 26.

An agreed set of facts state about 9pm a man walked outside of his Huene Ave house after hearing a loud “bang” on his roof.

He looked at his car and saw “Champagne-like bottle on the ground” nearby and one of his car windows had been smashed.

The man walked around to the side fence and heard another “bang” or “crash” on his roof before calling triple 0.

The facts state the victim saw Guest hanging over their shared fence yelling “I’m just returning the stuff you are throwing over my fence”.

The neighbour then saw Guest use a “throwing motion” and heard the sound of a window smashing before his partner came running out of the house.

“The victim’s partner told him that she was laying on her bed in the bedroom when the bedroom window smashed there was glass all over the bed and floor,” the facts state.

“When the victims looked in the bedroom they found a large piece of wood with several nails protruding lying on the bed covered up by holland blinds that had been ripped from the fittings when the piece of wood was thrown through the window.”

Police were called and arrested Guest who declined to be interviewed. (File image)

Police arrived at 11pm and introduced themselves to Guest who they asked what had happened.

Guest told them “I don’t know what you’re talking about” and then repeatedly said “no comment’ when asked anything further.

He was taken to Wyong Police Station but declined to be interviewed.

The facts state the damage to the car and the bedroom had not been quoted.

That matter was also adjourned to December 6 to “follow” the other charges, the court heard.
