“We are looking to do the first operation in the week we open our new operating theatres. The week of August 9 is our target.”

He said the da Vinci Xi was a tool for surgeons that enhances the capabilities for minimally invasive surgeries.

“It has the capability to get smaller instruments into patients which means smaller incisions,” he said.

The technology at the end of those instruments then gives the surgeon a view, a high definition 3D image, of the surgical field.”

Mr Kelly said the movements of the robot would be more precise and controlled, with the robot’s ability to translates the surgeon’s hand movements at the console in real time.

“With the minimally invasive approach, the healing time for wounds is faster,” he said.

“Now, if anyone on the Central Coast wants this type of surgery they have to travel out of the area.

“We currently have more than 10, highly trained and skilled specialists who will be among the first to use this brand new robot technology at Gosford Private Hospital. They’ll conduct surgical procedures in the specialties of Urology, General Surgery, Colorectal, Cardiothoracic, and Gynaecology.”
