A 46-year-old woman, who was found sitting in her car naked from the waist down, later returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.356.
Jane Ann Leach, of Gorokan, faced Wyong Local Court on Monday where she pleaded guilty to one count of high range drink-driving.
Her solicitor Tony Newton sought an adjournment so his client could undertake a traffic offender’s course.
However, Magistrate Robert Munro said “0.356 Mr Newton, we will need more than that” and ordered she undergo a full sentencing assessment report.
A sentencing assessment report is conducted by Community Corrections to canvass an offender’s suitability for penalties other than full time imprisonment.
An agreed set of facts states the single mum, employed at Wyong Hospital, was drinking since midday on November 10 when police received several complaints about a “female stumbling around her car before getting in” about 7.45pm.
The facts state Leach had been drinking at Wyong Leagues Club with a male counterpart.
Police began patrolling the area and found her sitting in her stationary red Volkswagen Golf near the intersection of Marks and Howelston roads.
Officers activated their flashing lights before pulling up behind her.
“Of note, the accused was not wearing any pants or under garments,” the facts state.
“Police requested the accused put some pants on and advised her that she was under arrest after returning a positive reading and would be conveyed to Wyong Police Station for secondary testing.”
Back at the station she recorded an official blood alcohol reading of 0.356 — more than seven times the legal limit.
“The accused stated that she had been drinking since approximately midday but did not know when she finished and not how many she had consumed. The accused did state that she was drinking white wine and had at least consumed an entire bottle of white wine.”
The facts state Leach was very apologetic to police and embarrassed, and put her drinking down to a relationship issue she had with a new partner.
“Police are of the opinion that the accused was seriously affected by intoxicating liquor,” the facts state.
“She required full assistance to exit her vehicle and walk to the police vehicle and again from the police vehicle into the police station.”
Leach was adjourned to face court again on January 29.
