A man with a Swastika tattoo on his neck was on the run from police when he traumatised three children on the Central Coast, after waking them so he could hide in their bunk bed.

Police say the children were “overwhelmingly” distressed after Ryan Kieth Felton hid in the bottom level of their bunk, pretending to be asleep before police arrived and arrested him.

Felton, of Kincumber, faced Gosford Local Court on Thursday where he avoided jail on sentence.

The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to a range of charges including failing to stop during a police pursuit, resisting arrest, stealing a car, possessing a prohibited drug and two counts each of driving while disqualified and obtaining financial advantage by deception.

He also pleaded guilty to a separate set of charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray, destroy or damage property, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and dishonestly obtain property by deception.

Magistrate Pauline Wright sentenced Felton to three years imprisonment to be served via an Intensive Corrections Order, which is the equivalent of a jail sentence served in the community.

An agreed set of facts tendered to the court stated that Felton, who was banned from the Central Coast as part of his bail conditions, filled up a car with $88 worth of fuel from the 7 Eleven service station at Green Point without paying on September 12 before stealing a Holden Commodore from a house at Springfield on September 25.

The facts state a week later Felton — who has a prominent swastika tattoo on the front of his neck — used a personal cheque to buy a second hand GSX 1000 motorcycle on October 2.

Felton contacted the seller via Facebook and the victim recognised him because he had bought another motorcycle from him six months earlier with cash.

Felton asked if the victim would accept a cheque for $6000 and the seller “reluctantly” agreed because “he had dealt with the accused in the past”.

However a few days later the victim looked at his account online and found the cheque had been rejected.

He contacted police who discovered the cheque was from an ANZ cheque book stolen during a break and enter at Picketts Valley a month earlier.

Felton was arrested on October 19 at Green Point and charged with possessing 0.23g of methamphetamine which he had in his pocket.

He was later released on bail pending further investigations with one of the conditions he not enter the Central Coast.

Shortly before 11pm on December 2 police travelling in an unmarked car along Henry Parry Dr at Gosford noticed a Toyota hatchback come up behind them “well above the 60km/h speed limit”.

Police pulled over to let the car pass before activating their lights and sirens.

The facts state Felton “fishtailed” through the intersection of William St before crossing onto the wrong side of the road and colliding with a concrete bollard.

Felton swerved back onto the correct side of the road and turned left onto Wells St where he reached speeds of 120km/h before turning the car’s headlights off “in a deliberate effort for police to terminate the pursuit”.

He ran a red light at no less than 100km/h through the Central Coast Highway intersection onto Terrigal Dr before turning into Serpentine Rd and doubling back to Barralong Rd where he crashed into a power pole and got out and fled.

He jumped a number of fences and entered a house where police found him hiding in a bottom bunk pretending to be asleep before he “violently resisted” arrest.

“At the time there were three young children asleep within the residence,” the facts state.

“The accused has entered the residence where young children were asleep in the safety of their home and caused them overwhelming distress and trauma. These actions alone demonstrate the accused has a complete disregard for the safety and wellbeing of the community.”

The charges relating to assault, with the court hearing Felton was holding a “machete” in his hand at the time he “punched” a woman victim in the face.

Felton’s sentence will expire in February 2026 with conditions he pay back the 7-11 at Green Point $88. He has also been disqualified from driving for 14 months.
