The driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal crash at Halloran overnight allegedly returned a high range blood alcohol reading.

Tuggerah Lakes Police District officers were called to Sparks Rd just after 7.30pm on Monday, following reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

The 82-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene.

The driver, a 49-year-old man, underwent a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result.

He was arrested and underwent a breath analysis test that returned a reading of 0.173.

The driver was taken to Wyong Hospital for mandatory testing and has now been charged with aggravated dangerous driving occasion death – PCA, dangerous driving occasioning death-drive under influence, negligent driving (occasioning death), drive with high range PCA, refuse or fail to provide urine sample, and possess prohibited drug.

The Port Macquarie man, named in court documents as Darren Stephen Hill, 49, was refused bail to appear at Wyong Local Court today (October 3) where his Legal Aid solicitor asked that he not appear in the dock.

His lawyer did not apply for bail and it was formally refused for Mr Hill to reappear on December 5.

The magistrate ordered the police to prepare and serve a brief of evidence to Mr Hill’s legal defence by November 28.
