Paul John Stuart faced Gosford Local Court this morning charged with five offences including possessing a loaded firearm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, fire firearm in a manner likely injure someone, shoot a firearm at a dwelling or house with disregard for safety and intentionally choke someone with recklessness
It came after Brisbane Water Police attended a unit block in Melbourne Street about 11pm on Thursday, in relation to an alleged domestic-related assault.
Police were told a 47-year-old woman had been assaulted in a unit at the complex by a man known to her, after he allegedly discharged a firearm inside.
The woman was able to leave the unit and notify police.
When police arrived they allegedly hear the man fire a second shot inside and officers established a perimeter around the unit block and further specialist resources attended.
Following negotiations, Mr Stuart, 51, of East Gosford was taken into custody about 2.30am this morning, without further incident.
His Legal Aid solicitor applied for bail but it was denied.
A handgun was seized from the unit and will be sent for forensic examination.
Inquiries are continuing.
